Mule Training, Mule Sales | Don & John's Mules, LLC
Training
| 1. All mules are started and trained in the round corral. There they learn to lead, lounge and get attention.. They are sacked out. Then they are tied up for patience and when ready saddled and worked with the saddle on. Then when ready with their head tied we get on and off the mule 30-50 times. |
2. When finished work is done in the round corral they go to the inside arena where there is more preparation for preparing the mule to start riding. Now the mule is rode in the inside arena until we have their head and a good stop. Then neck reining is started. Then they go to the obstacle course and we start outside trail training which is
A. 12 ft. of black plastic to look like a river.
B. 14 ft. wood bridge.
C. A water filled ditch.
D. White PVC pipe to look like a log or tree.
E. A 10 ft. pond and mud.
The mules are trained here until they go through without hesitation. Then we finish ground work until done. |
| 3.Next the mules are worked in a 12 ft. by 100 ft. alleyway. To improve their neck rein. |
| 4. Now we just continue to finish until satisfied. |
| 5. The mules are trained in Hells Canyon. They see a variety of things such as
black rocks, black stumps, deer, elk, snakes, a variety of birds and insects. The trail in Hells Canyon we train on has a very steep down grade and a very steep up grade. |
| 6. Mules have many natures. We are very good at matching the mule that will best fulfill your expectations. There is a big difference in trail trained mules and trader mules. |
